  • n          By 2010, the worldwide WiMAX market is forecasted to reach $3.5 billion and account for 4% of all broadband usage.

    n          Only about 18 percent of subscribers have acquired bundled landline and wireless service plans but that more than 31 percent actually want such bundles.

    n          Respondents had reduced landline long-distance calling by 60 percent and local calling by 46.9 percent due to increased use of wireless voice service.

    n          Worldwide IPTV service revenue will skyrocket to over $44 billion in 2009, and the number of IPTV subscribers worldwide will grow to 53.7 million by that year.

    n          The report found that in 2004, service providers worldwide spent $304 million on IPTV-related services infrastructure. That spending will grow to almost $4.5 billion in 2009.

    n          WLAN adoption grows over the next 3 years; Infonetics projects 57% of small, 62% of medium, and 72% of large organizations in North America will use them by 2009

    n          The number of organizations deploying voice over wireless LANs (WLAN) will triple over the next two years, from 10% now to 31% in 2007.

    n          The study is based on in-depth interviews with 240 small, medium, and large organizations in North America using WLANs by 2006, including analysis of 5 vertical markets, as well as surveys of 450 organizations for WLAN adoption rates.

    n          More than nine percent of U.S. wireless subscribers currently use their mobile phone as their only phone and that number will increase to as many as 37 percent by 2009.

    n          The study found that about half of wireless subscribers are willing to consider replacing their wireline phones with their mobile devices.

    n          The number of users who feel a wireline phone is necessary has also decreased since a 2003 survey.

    n          The total market size had increased steadily by 3.25 percent to reach 19.38 million sets in 2005 Q3.

    n          Thirty percent of China's handset makers will be gone by the end of 2006 due to the segmentation and centralization of China's handset market.

    n          Worldwide DSL aggregation port shipments grew 1% to almost 21 million in the third quarter of 2005, following a 19% rise in the second quarter. Despite the increase in shipments, however, revenues fell 2% to $1.57 after the 11% increase last quarter.

    n          The number of broadband loop carrier (BLC) very high bit-rate DSL (VDSL) port shipments more than doubled last quarter, while IP DSL access multiplexer shipments rose 22%.

    n          The worldwide number of DSL subscribers grew 70% between 2003 and 2004 to reach 98.6 million, and the firm expects the trend to continue, with the number of subscribers reaching 195.6 million in 2008.

    n          The global revenues from sales of service provider and carrier routers and switched rose 3% over the second quarter, to reach $1.86 billion 2005 3Q.

    n          IP edge router revenues showed a particular improvement, rising 7% over the previous quarter and 22% over the same time last year to reach $874 million 2005 3Q.

    n          Enterprise router market: revenues were up 8% over last quarter and 3% over the third quarter of last year to reach $859 million. The number of enterprise routers shipped last quarter were a 3% increase over the previous quarter, and a 27% rise over the same quarter last year.

    n          Revenues from sales of secure routers jumped 21% in the third quarter, and have more than doubled since the same time last year.

    n          Revenues from L2-L3 switches were up 6% over last quarter, reaching $3.95 billion, with the number of ports shipped increasing 7% to over 70 million in the same period.

    n          Worldwide Layer 4-7 switch sales and revenues were both up 19% over last year, revenues only rose 1% in the third quarter of 2005.

    n          Cisco remains a dominant player in all three markets, accounting for 80% of enterprise router revenues, 41% of service provider router and switch revenues and 51% of IP edge routers.

    n          Worldwide mobile phone sales totaled 205.4 million units in the third quarter of 2005, a 22 percent increase from the same period last year.

    n          Gartner has increased its worldwide mobile handset sales forecasts to reach 810 million units in 2005.
