HOUSTON, Texas - Due to an overwhelming outpour of generosity, two
warehouse locations are being established to accommodate the Katrina
Relief donations. The warehouses are located approximately seven
minutes from both the Reliant and Brown facilities.
There will be two drop off locations - Gulf Haven Church at 10716 Sabo
Road and West Houston Church at 2390 West Sam Houston Parkway North at
Hammerly. Both locations will accept clothing, bedding, diapers,
formula and products, which will be transported to the warehouses for
distribution.
The centralized system will enable efficient transfer of donations to
the many shelters throughout the city. The George R. Brown Convention
Center has received tons of clothing, linens and products, while other
shelters are still in need. Shelters will be able to call the central
warehouse to order formula, diapers, clothing, and have them delivered
in a timely manner.
As of September 3, 2005, George R. Brown Convention Center is no
longer accepting donations. Those wanting to donate clothes, toys and
other items of this nature are urged to call the United Way at
713/957-4357 or visit the city drop-off sites.
